The Clipsal brand first appeared in 1920, when Alfred Gerard developed a range of adjustable, clip on metal conduit fittings. These products provided Australian contractors with an innovative solution to the long standing problem of size variations in metal conduits. At the close of 2003, Clipsal was acquired by Schneider Electric, forming a formidable partnership.
Schneider Electric announced a major commitment to Australian manufacturing back in 2007, with its decision to relocate the Clipsal office and principal manufacturing site in Bowden, SA to a new facility at Gepps Cross, 9kms north of Adelaide.
Completed in 2009, this state-of-the-art facility occupies an impressive total floor area of almost 30,000 square metres and is designed to maximise manufacturing and logistical efficiencies. All key brands within the group share the facility. An outstanding 900 double power sockets are manufactured at Gepps Cross every hour.
The Clipsal site, near Adelaide, runs 24 hours a day, 6 days a week and the factory is accessed by eight large dock delivery doors which provide access for forklifts, vehicles, pedestrians and delivery trucks, delivering and transporting pallets of goods all around Australia throughout the day.
With the increased demand for Clipsal products, the Warehouse Maintenance Manager at Clipsal looked to increase the efficiency of their access doors in response to changing operational requirements. The loading dock doors already on site were cumbersome in terms of the constant opening and closing requirements needed on site - with staff and deliveries often having to wait for the door to open and close completely; each time the doors were open longer than required - dust and pests were able to enter the site. The Clipsal site required improved speed and modernised access during working hours to increase efficiency and to upgrade the infrastructure of the site providing long term improvements and reduced maintenance costs.
Remax Movidor High Speed Doors provide fast and efficient access, opening at 2.5m per second and offer a range of activation devices including; radar parallel traffic rejection, radar with IR safety curtain, inductive floor loop, remote control with handsets, pull cord switch and swipe card security access.
To improve site safety and increase efficiency, LED Integrated Traffic Light Systems were installed with the Movidor High Speed Doors. The Integrated Traffic Lights assist both Clipsal warehouse staff and delivery drivers by illuminating the doors via LED lights, showing when they are free to approach and allowing staff to see when traffic may be approaching the doors from the opposite side. This allows pedestrians and other users to keep clear of the door and avoid collisions and other damage.
SCOPE OF WORKS:
1. Consultancy and Planning
2. Made to measure components
3. Delivery and installation of Rapid Doors and Integrated Traffic Lights
As a general overview - the main scope of works required were to:
- Provide rapid access doors to seven loading dock bays and one large PVC Stripdoor, to increase traffic flow and improve efficient access to the warehouse around the clock, whilst keeping out dust and insects.
- Deliver effective temperature control by speeding up teh rate at which the warehouse doors are opened and closed and ensure that they are not left open for periods longer than necessary.
- Increase and upgrade site safety by installing 'smart' tools: LED Integrated Traffic Light System, creating efficient and safe access to the site.
